100 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Brawl-

It's that game again! For those who've never played, the point is essentially to inform people about little hidden tricks in Brawl-. Easter eggs, character secrets, neat little tricks, etc. For instance, Sonic's side-b instantly destroys terrain and SSE enemies. Everyone probably already knew that, but you get the idea. The goal of the game is to see how fast we can get to 100. No double-posting (you can post again after someone else posts) and try to keep your tips useful. I'll start. I'm hoping everyone takes something useful away from this.

1. There are a few frames towards the end of Snake's dash attack during which it can be grab cancelled and retain it's momentum. DACG? Very useful for approach since Snake has such a great throw game.

Pin Clock

Project Leader
Minus Backroom
2. Squirtle's fSmash can cancel into jabs.

I run the project and I just learned that yesterday, which says something about how obscure some of these things are.

4: Holding the A button and/or jump button while Mario is doing a dair right after he does a jump will grant him significantly more height! Improves recovery and gives just a bit more range to that last hit on dair!

5. If you do a diagonal forward smash with wolf, he'll dash forward and then quickly back to his original position. Following it with his side-B is a nice combo. See what other opportunities you make.

Remember, we aren't simply pointing out changes from the changelog. Explain Easter eggs too and point out things that flew under the radar for some people.

6: Mario and Luigi have an alternate attack when B is held instead of tapped. These moves, Firebrand and Thunderbrand respectfully, originate from the Mario and luigi superstar saga game! Pretty cool reference yes?

7. Lucario can reach maximum power by quickly taunting up+down+up on the d-pad [I usually do it with two hands by quickly sliding my left hand down and my right hand over to the bottom of the d-pad] - he'll shout out a phrase (try it to see what it is!) before enveloping himself in aura and dealing a massive amount of damage (no knockback) to himself, and good damage to those caught in the surrounding aura. While he may be extremely vulnerable to KOs, he is also at maximum power (4X his 0% power!) and all his moves are in their best damage-dealing state (he has some moves that act different as he gains percent - these moves are all in their altered, stronger forms when he powers up).

There are other characters with this secret taunt input - I can name at least 3, but you should look for them yourself!

8. Player 1: If you use Wiimote, Nunchuck, or CC, press and hold 1+2 before and while doing CPU Level Select and scrolling down once with the joystick will land your computer to be level Minus.

9.) The best times to attempt an instant Falcon Punch are after you land D-Air or Dash Attack.

There's Lucario, Captain Falcon, and Luigi. Are you saying someone else has an up-down-up secret taunt?

Is this possible to do with a Gamecube controller?

10. Olimar has an attack that even damages people who are shielding or invincible - it's his whistle! It hurts people's ears, so it does 1% of non-flinching, invincibility and shield-piercing knockback.

@Bent - I counted Samus's ability to transform to Zero Suit Samus by using the up-down-up taunt to be a secret taunt. If you hold L/R/shield, you transform - if not, you actually just do the end flip that occurs if you use Zero Suit Samus's final smash, and stay as Samus instead of transforming.

11: While shielding, bowser can turn around and grab foes directly behind him straight from his shield by pressing a and b. This has been around for a looooong time.

12. Press B during Wario's side-taunt to fart. You probably already knew this. What I bet you didn't know is that if you're on a crate and do that, it gives the crate a small hitbox that one-hit-KOs the opponent. If you do this in the air, you go flying up at ludicrous speeds!

13. If you use D3's Neutral B while the game is at 1/4 speed(i.e. training mode), you'll find out where the whistle sound comes from...

14. if you hold down B with DK just as you land on the ground, you get a nice, brown, barrel-afro

15. if you press down B with DK while in the middle of a star KO, he'll be doing his shrugging taunt in the background

16.) If you press (A) while firing Snake's Nikita missile, he'll warp a grenade instead.

The grenade can be warped to 4 (maybe more?) different spots, depending on which way you press the Control Stick:
- A short distance in front of Snake
- A short distance in front of Snake, high up in the air
- A long distance in front of Snake
- Directly below Snake

If Snake is holding an item (like a Proximity Bomb), he'll warp that item instead of a grenade.
Gah, how did I forget about that one...

No double posting. Just a reminder.

17: peach gains backwards momentum after a dtilt if a smash attack is executed afterwards, or she tilts back on the control stick.

LOL I need to see that now dood!

18. if you tap B during sonic's dash attack, you'll transition instantly into the spin dash.. side b -> A (dash attack) -> B (spin dash) -> A attack with any/no direction held (instant aerial out of spin dash)

lol, it's funny cause if you're playing against opponents who know, they're a little more reluctant to kill you any other way, just to see it x3

...OH! important note on that: you can only do the taunt ONCE while in the star KO... after you use it once, he goes into his neutral standing animation until he respawns, which is also hilarious to see in the background, but you can't use that down B again while in that animation, so maybe wait until you're just about to disappear to get him as centered as possible

Yes.

20. Jiggglypuff learned Explosion, which does 100% and OHKOs anyone close enough it deals knockback to (I have super-armored the explosion before). It also KOs Jigglypuff, so it's not great if you're down stocks and they're at high percents, but if you use your shield long enough, you may figure out how to trigger it...

23: Metaknights down throw links with shuttle loop by pressing B.

Can you edit your post to say 22 instead of 21? I kinda ninja'd you.

I did edit it right after I posted.

24. Some characters can now OHKO. They are:
Ganondorf: Warlock/Satan Punch. Complete overkill.
Link: DI won't help you survive the Mortal Draw.
Lucario: Fully charged f-smash at 198% and above OHKO'd Donkey from the spawn point in Metal Cavern.
Wario: See #12 above.
Jigglypuff: Self-Destruct/Explosion is a great way to turn matches around, and should be a part of every Jiggly main's metagame.
Ike: Almost fully charged Eruption has been an OHKO since vBrawl.
Marth: The OHKO everyone knew existed.
G&W: Judgment #9, and Oil Panic after absorbing 3 PK Flashes.
Kirby/D3: Good old Kirbycide.
Bowser: Same sacrificial KO as always.

Some of these aren't well known at all.

25: Bowserciding with side b doesn't have to lead to bowsers death! Due to a vbrawl exploit and given that bowser is larger than normal, he can jump after the person he grabbed dies and recover back to the stage! Varies in timing this technique with the stage it is done on. The timing for this technique is tricky but rewarding. This is also an example of one of the things that wasn't intentional but ended up being included in official minus! Yay for exploits!
