Try using 3rd party software such as WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the files, worked for me.

Just an fyi, 2-player Multi-Man Brawl is still completely broken. Attempting to start a 2-player match causes the entire game to hang and crash. This issue was also present with 4.0b.

running Windows 10, using the 4.0bc (vBrawl Portraits.zip) UPDATE: Using 3rd party extraction software such as WinRAR or 7-Zip works fine. The issue must be an irregularity either in the boot ELF file itself, or in the default Windows file extractor.

I just tried adding a 2nd player on Home Run Contest, that crashed the game as well.
